Discorsi alla morte di Cesare: storiografia, oratoria, teatro

Luigi Spina, Cristina Pepe, Andrea Balbo, Simone Beta

Abstract:

Three papers about the speeches delivered after Caesar's death: Cristina Pepe focuses on Greek and Latin forms of funerary oratory (texts and rhetorical rules); Andrea Balbo analyzes Brutus' speech reported by Appian, in the context of late Republican oratory; Simone Beta deals with the sources of Antony's speech in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and with Brecht's reception of it.
Luigi Spina adds an Introduction to the papers and quotes, in the Appendix, two parodies of Antony's speech.
