Il lamento di Anna nell’Eneide

Paola Gagliardi

Abstract:

The lament of Anna for Dido in the Aeneid is an interesting example of Virgil’s skill in constructing his characters, but also of his great attention to funeral rites. He is able to reproduce the features of real female laments, inserting them in the characterization of Anna, and evokes the most common traits of funeral ritual. Through this small passage he shows not only his ‘dialogue’ with the Iliadic model, but also his originality in the representation of the ritual, refusing its comforting effects.
