Sen. Contr. 10.3.1. Nullum fuit in proscriptione mulierculae caput. Perché le donne non furono proscritte dai triumviri?

Giulia Vettori

Abstract:

Proscriptions were undoubtedly the most conspicuous initiative of the politics of the so-called “second” triumvirate. By re-examining the evidence concerning this traumatic event and, in particular, by valorising the testimony of Seneca the Elder, this paper addresses the issue of the exclusion of women from the proscription lists, discussing the possible motivations behind the choice of adopting a moderate attitude towards the female relatives of the proscribed men made by Octavian, Antony and Lepidus.
