Abstract:

One can offer his voice to others, as the orator who lets a ficticious opponent speak, only to prevent an actual opponent; or one can offer his speech to an orator, as the ancient logograph or the modern speech-writer. The spokesman is another figure of this exchange of ideas and words among which we meet from antiquity to our days.
